37 drivers will be assessed throughout the season before the end-of-year shootout in Jerez de la Frontera
Lamborghini Squadra Corse, the racing division of Automobili Lamborghini, has announced the latest Super Trofeo and GT3 Junior Program intake of drivers, who will have the chance to take part in the annual end-of-year assessment and shootout at Jerez de la Frontera in November.
A total of 28 Super Trofeo and nine GT3 drivers have been selected for the year-long Program. All 37 drivers will be monitored and assessed throughout the season, with specific evaluations on performance (single lap pace and average speed), progression, consistency over the course of a weekend, experience, professionalism, technical feedback and attitude both at and away from the circuit.
The Super Trofeo Junior Driver Program is dedicated to drivers aged 25 or under and who compete in one of the three regional Lamborghini Super Trofeo championships (Europe, North America and Asia), while the GT3 Junior Drivers Program is reserved for those drivers competing at the wheel of a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 across the globe.
Of the Super Trofeo Junior drivers, 20 compete in the European series, with five coming from North America and three from the Asian championship. Frenchman Loris Cabirou, however, is dovetailing a dual European and North American campaign. Testament to the reach and popularity of Lamborghini Super Trofeo competition, 16 different nationalities are represented in the Junior Driver Program, while drivers from five countries make up the GT3 Junior roster.
Following the assessment, the most impressive drivers over the season will then be selected by Squadra Corse to take part in a dedicated shootout, held after the traditional season-closing Lamborghini World Finals at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit in southern Spain. Both the winner of the Super Trofeo Junior Driver Program and GT3 Junior Driver Program shootouts will go on to receive factory support from Squadra Corse during the 2025 season.
Last year’s Super Trofeo Junior Driver laureates were Ugo de Wilde and Marzio Moretti, both of whom are racing in GT3 (in GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup and International GT Open respectively) this year, while Loris Spinelli won the GT3 Junior shootout and was promoted to Lamborghini Factory Driver.
De Wilde and Moretti join an expanded GT3 Junior roster which also features German drivers Simon Connor Primm and Luca Engstler as well as Italian GT Championship competitors Jacopo Guidetti, Riccardo Cazzaniga and Gilles Stadsbader. Moretti’s GT Open team-mate Artem Petrov and GTWC Europe Bronze Cup driver Antoine Doquin complete the list.
Four drivers will receive official backing from Lamborghini Squadra Corse as Young Professional Drivers: double Super Trofeo North America champion and IMSA GTD competitor Danny Formal remains part of the roster, as does DTM race winner Maximilian Paul. Completing the line-up is Yuki Nemoto (GTWC Asia) and Italian GT Championship race winner and Spa 24 Hours podium finisher, Mattia Michelotto.
A key element of the progression for young drivers to climb up the ranks of GT and sportscar racing, the Super Trofeo Junior Driver Program and GT3 Junior Program offer an array of hands-on training such as media management and on-track instruction, providing the perfect package for up-and-coming prospects. The Programs also teach the drivers how to increase their technical expertise while maintaining physical preparation in the state-of-the-art gym facilities at Lamborghini’s Sant’Agata Bolognese headquarters.
Several drivers who, after successfully completing the Young Drivers Programs, have also been appointed official Lamborghini instructors. This year, Baptiste Moulin, Marcus Påverud, Oliver Söderström, and Pierre Louis Chovet will join experienced instructors like Jonathan Ceccotto and Alberto Di Folco, who were also part of the Young Drivers roster in the past. This significant milestone represents a recognition of their professional skills in the automotive world, even beyond competitive racing.
The 2024 Lamborghini Young Driver Program is organised by Lamborghini Squadra Corse in partnership with Macron, a leading Bolognese brand specialising in sportswear, which will exclusively provide uniforms and training kit to Young Driver Program participants.
