Alternative date announced in due course, Paul Ricard to open 2023 campaign in June
Lamborghini Squadra Corse announces that the opening round of the 2023 Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe season at Imola (5-7 May) has been postponed, due to a delay in the completion of pit building and paddock renovations.
A statement from the Le Mans Endurance Management (LMEM) group, which organises the European Le Mans Series and whose support bill Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe was due to race on, said that a decision on an alternative date for the round will be announced in due course.
“Over the winter, a series of improvements had been planned to the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari. However, a delay to the scheduled completion of these works at the circuit has forced Le Mans Endurance Management (LMEM), the organisers of the European Le Mans Series, the Michelin Le Mans Cup and the Ligier European Series, to postpone Round 2 of the 2023 season, the 4 Hours of Imola, which was due to take place on Sunday, 7 May.
“The improvement works to the paddock and garage complex at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari were due to have been completed by the middle of April, but delays to the project mean the circuit won’t be ready to receive the teams from the European Le Mans Series, Michelin Le Mans Cup, Ligier European Series and Lamborghini Super Trofeo as planned”.
“LMEM is urgently working to find an alternative solution with the circuit management and competitors. An update will be sent to the partners, stake holders, and the fans as soon as there is further information.”
While the rescheduled Imola date is yet to be revealed, the remainder of the 2023 Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe calendar remains unchanged, with Paul Ricard opening the season on the first weekend in June. Then it’s onto the standout event of the year, Spa-Francorchamps on the support bill of the Spa 24 Hours at the earlier date of the end of June.
A month later, the Nürburgring makes a welcome return to the calendar after a year away, before a first trip to Valencia in Spain since 2016, when it played host to the Lamborghini Grand Finals. Vallelunga, the venue for the 2023 Grand Finals, will hold the final round of the season in November.
