Lamborghini Young Driver and GT3 Junior Program 2022 members announced

31 Mayo 2022

38 drivers will be assessed across the season before end-of-year shootout at Portimão. Best drivers will receive official support from Lamborghini Squadra Corse for 2023

Lamborghini Squadra Corse has unveiled the latest intake of drivers into its Young Driver and GT3 Junior Programs for the 2022 season. A total of 15 Junior Drivers and 23 GT3 Juniors have been selected by Squadra Corse, making it one of the most comprehensive development program in GT racing.

The Young Drivers Program is dedicated to drivers aged 26 or under who compete in one of the continental Lamborghini Super Trofeo championships, while the GT3 Junior Program is reserved for those racing in GT championships worldwide behind the wheel of the Huracán GT3 EVO.

All 38 drivers will be assessed throughout the season, with specific evaluations focusing on performance (single lap as well as average pace), consistency over the course of a race weekend, experience, professionalism, technical feedback with engineers and attitude both at and away from the track.

The most impressive of these drivers within the programs will be invited to take part in a final selection shootout held at Portimão Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, following the 2022 Super Trofeo Finals (November 5-6). The drivers picked by Program Supervisor Raffaele Giammaria and his team will be immersed in a two-day session featuring physical training, attitude and driving skills. The successful drivers at the end of the selection shootout will go on to receive official support from Lamborghini Squadra Corse for the 2023 season.

Last year’s winners of the shootout were Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe champion Leonardo Pulcini and GT3 driver Arthur Rougier. Both drivers are contesting full campaigns at the wheel of a Huracán GT3 EVO, with Pulcini contesting International GT Open with Oregon Team and Rougier participating in a dual campaign of Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS and ADAC GT Masters with Emil Frey Racing.

Pulcini has been announced as one the GT3 Juniors for this season, alongside his Super Trofeo title-winning team-mate Kevin Gilardoni. Last year’s Super Trofeo Grand Finals winner Mattia Michelotto is also a GT3 Junior in 2022, competing in Italian GT with VS Racing.

A key element of the racing division of Automobili Lamborghini, the brand’s Youngster Programs have provided up-and-coming drivers a tangible career path not only into the world of GT racing since 2014, but also as Lamborghini works drivers and instructors.

Led by Giammaria, the Youngsters Programs offers a complete package for young talent, from media management to on-track instruction: the project supports drivers in professional and personal growth, through the programme, young drivers are taught how to increase their technical knowledge, both on the track and off it without neglecting physical preparation.
