Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe title battles intensify on return to the Nürburgring

Ali and Söderström lead the way in the Pro standings on 12^th visit to the Eiffel circuit

Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe enters the second half of the 2024 season this weekend (26-28 July) with the picturesque Eiffel venue of the Nürburgring playing host to the fourth round of the one-make series reserved for Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2. The 15-turn, 5.148km track has had a strong presence on the Super Trofeo calendar and will celebrate its 12^th appearance on the calendar.

After racing on the support bill of the FIA World Endurance Championship for its first three rounds of the year, at Imola, Spa-Francorchamps and Le Mans, Super Trofeo Europe returns to more familiar surroundings this weekend as part of the SRO Motorsport Group’s Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS meeting. The remainder of the 2024 season takes the one-make championship to Barcelona in October before the traditional season-closing final round and World Finals event at Jerez de la Frontera which will be held in mid-November.

Ali/Söderström looking to build on Pro points lead
Target Racing’s Largim Ali and Oliver Söderström emerged from a tumultuous third round of the year at Le Mans with the lead in the Pro standings following a second-place finish in what turned out to be the only race at the Circuit de la Sarthe after tyre issues forced race two to be cancelled. The Scandianvian pairing lead the way with 50 points but snapping at their heels is BDR Competition by Grupo Prom’s Amaury Bonduel who, with three wins out of five, is just 1.5-points adrift heading to Germany. Third in the standings, albeit 22 points further back is the Oregon Team combination of Leonardo Caglioni and Enzo Geraci who will be aiming for a return to the podium for the first time since the opening round of the year at Imola. Another driver keen on turning around his season is last year’s runner-up Mattia Michelotto who is fourth in the standings after picking up his first win of the year in race one at Le Mans and will be partnered by debutant Micah Stanley, while Leipert Motorsport have victory on their minds on home soil with an all-German partnership of Sebastian Balthasar and Jacob Riegel. Behind, just nine points separate the next five places in the standings with Rexal Villorba Corse’s Benedetto Strignano – who will be joined by the returning Alberto di Folco – leading the trio of Iron Lynx crews (Giorgio Amati-Jesse Salmenautio, Georgi Dimitrov-Edgar Maloigne and Stefan Bonstandjiev-Pavel Lefterov), Simon Tirman (Schumacher CLRT) Hampus Ericsson (Target Racing) and Simon Gachet (Schumacher CLRT). Expected to make his Super Trofeo Europe debut this weekend is DTM regular Maximilian Paul, who will team up alongside Guiseppe Gurrieri at GG Motorsport.

Formánek and Rosina face fresh challenge in Pro-Am title race

As has been the case all season, Mičánek Motorsport’s Štefan Rosina and Bronislav Formánek continue to lead the Pro-Am standings but will be under threat from a resurgent Boutsen VDS pairing Roee Meyuhas and Renaud Kuppens who, after finishing third at Le Mans, reduced the margin at the top of the table to just 2.5-points. Such is the competitiveness of the class, that the Iron Lynx crew of Claude-Yves Gosselin and Joran Leneutre sit just four points further back in third place. ASR’s Miloš Pavlović and Alessio Ruffini are a bit further adrift in fourth, 3.5-points ahead of Lamborghini Stüttgart by Target Racing’s Guido Luchetti who in turn is 1.5-points clear of VS Racing’s Andrea Frasinetti and Ignazio Zanon. Pegasus Racing’s Anthony Nahra and Dimitri Enjalbert recorded a breakthrough maiden series race win at Le Mans and will hope to add to their tally from sixth in the standings. Returning to the championship this weekend is 2021 Pro champion Kevin Gillardoni, who stands in at Oregon Team for Davide Roda, injured during practice at Le Mans last time out. Gillardoni will partner Pietro Peroloni in the #14 Huracán.

Tribaudini and Randazzo lead the way in Am class

Following the Le Mans weekend, it’s all change in the Am class as VS Racing’s Piergiacomo Randazzo and Stéphane Tribaudini moved into the lead of the standings thanks to a superb comeback drive in France which saw them take second in race one. The pair, who also took victory in the second race in Belgium, lead the way with 46 points, 8.5 ahead of Art-Line’s Nigel Bailly. The Belgian driver, who claimed a maiden win at Imola back in April, is just 1.5-points clear of Target Racing’s Huilin Han while Perolini retains fourth place despite moving up to the Pro category this weekend alongside returning 2021 champion Kevin Gillardoni. A pair of one-time winners also looking to get into championship contention includes Stéphan Guerin (Schumacher CLRT) who took first place at Spa, and Marco Gersager (GM Motorsport) who came out on top in Le Mans.

Lamborghini Cup swings the way of Biglieri and Matić
The highly competitive Lamborghini Cup class took yet another twist last time out in France, as ASR’s Paolo Biglieri and Petar Matić made the most of a late-race spin from GT3 Poland’s Holger Harmsen to assume the lead of the standings. Having taken their second consecutive victory, Biglieri and Matić hold a 4.5-point margin over Harmsen heading into the weekend. Four points further back is Charlie Martin who has switched from Brutal Fish Racing to Iron Lynx from this weekend as team-mate to compatriot John Seale, while Art-Line’s Shota Abkhazava lies fourth in the standings with 32 points. Behind Jason Keats (Brutal Fish Racing) in sixth place is the Rexal Villorba Corse combination of Luciano and Donovan Privitelio, which is tied on 23 points with DS Racing’s Serge Doms, and only half a point clear of BDR Competition by Grupo Prom’s Alfredo Hernandez Ortega.
