Lamborghini wins 24 Hours of Daytona again and makes history

28 1月 2019

Lamborghini won the 24 Hours of Daytona for the second time in a row, thus becoming the first car manufacturer to win the legendary race twice in the GTD class. GRT Grasser Racing claimed victory with Mirko Bortolotti, Rolf Ineichen, Rick Breukers and Christian Engelhart behind the wheel of the debutant #11 Huracán GT3 Evo.

Despite two red flag stoppages due to extreme track conditions caused by heavy rain, the GRT made a strong start with Ineichen at the wheel, leaping from fifth on the grid to run third. Breukers dropped to 16th in GTD, but was back in contention by the end of the seventh hour, before handing the car over to Lamborghini Factory Driver Mirko Bortolotti, who consolidated fourth position. The Italian battled hard with the leading rivals to run fifth approaching half-distance. The #11, now with Engelhart at the wheel, dropped as low as 11th in GTD but made a superb recovery to claim victory when the race was stopped again, this time permanently.

President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini Stefano Domenicali said, "This is a historic victory for Lamborghini, a success which has rewarded the hard work of the many men and women who do their best for our company every day! Last year's success was incredible, but this year will remain in motorsport history books."
