Lamborghini dominates at the Sachsenring; Bortolotti consolidates DTM lead

11 9月 2023

A weekend of victories for the Huracán GT3 EVO, with SSR Performance in DTM and Oregon Team in the GT Open

Lamborghini driver Mirko Bortolotti won the second of two DTM races at the Sachsenring, Germany, at the weekend, driving his SSR Performance Huracán GT3 EVO. It was Bortolotti’s third win of the year, and it consolidated his lead in the drivers’ standings with two meetings remaining. On the same weekend, the Oregon Team celebrated its third win of the year in the International GT Open, held at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, courtesy of drivers Maximilian Paul and Pierre-Louis Chovet. It was a triumphant weekend for the Sant’Agata Bolognese brand, which now looks forward to the remainder of the season.

The Sachsenring held the sixth of eight scheduled DTM races this year. Bortolotti set fastest time in the second qualifying session, held on Sunday morning, which put him on pole position for Race 2. The Lamborghini factory driver immediately took the lead at the start, but behind him a collision involving several cars on the opening lap brought out the red flag.

Everything was reset, but the second start was from behind the safety car. Bortolotti again led away from pole and was able to open out a small advantage over the highly competitive field. With 38 minutes of the race remaining he made his pit stop, and returned to the track to bring home the win. It was his third win of the year, following those already recorded at the Nürburgring and Lausitzring in August. For Lamborghini, this was the fifth win of the season, while for Bortolotti the result extended his lead in the standings to 11 points with two rounds remaining, at the Red Bull Ring in two weeks, and the finale at Hockenheim.

Lamborghini also scored victory in the International GT Open race, held at the Red Bull Ring. Maximilian Paul, who shared the Oregon Team Lamborghini with Pierre-Louis Chovet, set pole position during Saturday’s qualifying session. At the start of the race, he took the lead from pole and was able to extend his advantage over the second-placed car to more than five seconds. In doing so, he set fastest lap with a time of 1’29”484. After the round of pit stops, and despite a ten-second penalty awarded due to the good results in the previous race at Paul Ricard, Chovet returned to the track with his lead intact, and was able to continue without problems to the flag.

There was also a podium for Lamborghini in the ADAC GT Masters, also held at the Sachsenring. The GRT Grasser Racing Team started from the second row, but drivers Marco Mapelli and Benjamin Hites were able to improve to take second place in the race.
